The programme

What a class looks like

Craft & Create runs once a week for an hour and a half after the bell, in a classroom at your child’s own school. Small groups, one seasonal project, and a finished piece to carry home.

A session, start to finish

3:00 to 4:30, every week

Classes start shortly after school lets out. Here is how the hour and a half goes.

  1. 3:00
    Settle in

    Aprons on, find a seat, say hi. About ten minutes.

  2. 3:10
    See the project

    The instructor shows the finished piece and walks through the steps.

  3. 3:20
    Make it

    Fifty minutes of the good part. The instructor circulates, helps with tricky bits, and handles anything hot or sharp.

  4. 4:10
    Tidy up together

    Rinse brushes, cap markers, sweep up beads. Part of the craft.

  5. 4:25
    Pick up

    Children are released only to the adults on your authorised list.

Two groups, by age

Same project, pitched to their level

A Kindergartener and a Grade 5 make the same craft in the same week, with the steps adapted so both finish something they’re proud of.

Kindergarten to Grade 2

Tuesdays

3:00 – 4:30 pm

  • Simpler steps and bolder shapes
  • The instructor does the glue gun, sealing and pouring
  • Names pre-written to trace, lots of sticker decorating

Grades 3 to 5

Wednesdays

3:00 – 4:30 pm

  • Full palette and full creative freedom
  • Layering, lettering and detail work
  • Often time for a second bracelet for a friend

What’s included

Everything. Really.

  • All materials for every project: canvases, ceramics, beads, paint, glue, stickers, the lot
  • Aprons and table covers, so school clothes mostly survive
  • Take-home care notes when a project needs them (baking the mug, letting the canvas dry)
  • Clean-up. The classroom is left as we found it

Who runs it

Meet Tarissa

Craft & Create was started by Tarissa Grisley, who plans every project, tests it at home first, and leads the classes. Every instructor holds a Vulnerable Sector criminal record check, the enhanced check specifically for working with children, and the programme carries liability insurance for children’s activities.
